Clearing a space to sell a home includes addressing aspects beyond what can be seen. Space clearing serves to balance and neutralize the energies within a space. Thoughtforms can often hang in the air and may create an unpleasant 'feel' in an area, thereby deterring would-be buyers from looking any further. The goal is to create a balanced movement of chi (life force energy) flowing throughout. This concept is illustrated by the yin yang theory and symbol, whereby both extremes coexist and serve to balance each other, so that the energy rhythmically ebbs and flows, though not too fast (yang) or too slow (yin).
To begin a space clearing it is necessary to assess the existing energy. A simplified explanation says that if there has been a sickness, then the residual energy in the room will be thick and heavy or too yin (slow) in nature. On the other hand, if there has been a lot of negative conversation, thought or activity in a space, then the energy will feel abrupt and disturbed or too yang (fast) in nature.
A number of modalities can be used to bring balance and bless a home. Some of my favorites include chimes, bells, chants, drums and sage. These have all been very effective in clearing spaces so that they are balanced with positive chi flowing throughout. A successfully cleared space announces, "I am ready for a new owner." This serves to accomplish the ultimate goal of making a new family or individual feel welcome and comfortable -- so that they choose to make the space their new home.

Staging your home to sell
Most people have heard of the importance of staging their home before they put it on the market. This often includes cleaning and clearing out excess, though it should also be focused on depersonalization. The best staging jobs are those which create an environment similar to that of a hotel. Potential buyers are most comfortable (and likely to buy) in a space which is clean and nicely put together. They should be able to easily imagine themselves and their things in that space.
